Hello 👋🏾 Today I will be reviewing the book "Rules of The Ruff" by Heidi Lang.

Summary

Jessie is in for a long and boring summer at her aunt and uncle’s house. Her cousin Ann has a bratty new best friend, which leaves Jessie all by herself. But Jessie is industrious, and—not content with being ignored all summer—she convinces Wes, a grumpy neighborhood dog walker, to take her on as his apprentice. Sure, dog walking turns out to be more difficult than she expected, but she has Wes’s dog-walking code, the Rules of the Ruff, to guide her, and soon she’s wrangling her very own pack. But when a charismatic rival dog walker moves to town, she quickly steals most of Wes’s business—and Jessie decides she isn’t going to take this defeat without putting up a fight.

Likes

This book was good but n. I think my favorite character was probably Ann. She seemed like a realistic character. I also enjoyed the dogs in this book. I'm more of a cat person but I really liked the dogs in this book and their descriptions anyway.

Dislikes

Parts of this book were extremely unrealistic. The fact that Jessie went into Wes’s car with no permission isn't a good lesson for kids to learn. Also, Wes seemed like a very immature adult. The pranks they played were cruel and some were even illegal! Also, Jessie sneaking out multiple times and getting caught and getting in no trouble at all was a bit troubling. She didn't even think to ask permission before knocking on a grouchy old man's door and ask for a job, and then proceeded to go into his car and house with no permission and she didn't even stop to think about whether that was a good idea. Some of the characters were very 2-dimensional, with the exception of Ann. I disliked Jessie's attitude and the way she acted. This book honestly shocked me in multiple ways.

Overall

This book was good but there were a lot of flaws that bothered me. If you can ignore those flaws, it would be a good book. Honestly, I give this book a 5.5/10. It wasn't one of my favorites and I probably wouldn't read it again.

That's all for now but if you have any recommendations, please leave them in the comments! It will take a while for me to review them because I have a bunch of book lined up to review but I will get to your book as soon as I can. TTFN!
